TITLE | The farthest point map on an octahedron. |
ABSTRACT | Starting with a point p in a compact metric space X, let F(p) be the set of points farthest from p. In good cases, the set F(p) is generically just a single point, and so F gives a generically defined map from X to itself. I will describe exactly what F does when X is the regular octahedron equipped with its intrinsic flat cone metric, and I will illustrate the ideas with a computer program I made. |
