TITLE | [GS_M_3W] Three W's Seminar: Quantum toroidal algebras: Why? What? HoW? |
ABSTRACT | Following the iconic formula of the 3W seminar, I will attempt to explain why this mathematical object came to occupy the greatest part of my time over the last four years. Taking both mathematics and physics perspectives, I shall explain how this algebra manages to unify objects of a very different nature: quantum groups, W- algebras and Hecke algebras. These considerations will lead us to three "What?", or three different ways of constructing the algebras. Finally, the "HoW" will focus on the vertex operators, showing how the same technique is used in different models of theoretical physics: 2d Conformal Field Theories, Quantum Integrables Systems and Topological String Theory. |
