TITLE Why the hidden photon might be less constrained than we thought
ABSTRACT The hidden photon portal, where a secluded dark photon of an extra U(1) symmetry is coupled to the SM solely via kinetic mixing with hypercharge, has been studied extensively in the past. Therefore, large regions of the hidden photon parameter space have been explored and constrained by a multitude of different experiments like beam dumps, fixed target experiments, lepton and hadron colliders as well as cosmological observations. However, the picture can alter dramatically if the extra U(1) is taken to be a local version of the accidental global symmetries of the SM. In this talk I want to review the current picture of the simple hidden photon model and explain why some of its most powerful constraints may become irrelevant if SM particles are charged under the new U(1) symmetry.
